Out on a limb

I think some of my most creative moments have been captured on this blog. Shame I dropped it for so long. Life gets hectic I guess.

Believe it or not I've been listening to music lately. I finished a Brian Setzer live album today and that guy can really play. I like his style, I mean, it's 2010 and the dude still dresses in zoot suits and stuff. I also like his big hollow body guitars.

Also, it should be noted that Cartel put out one of the best albums I've heard in a long time. It's called Cycles and I think everyone should at least listen to it. It's got so many great songs on it. Deep South alone should be blowing up the radio and it's not. Besides that, the kid can sing.

What's NOT cool in music. Owl City. Seriously, Ben Gibbard should be filing several copyright lawsuits on this kid. It's a blatant rip-off of Death Cab and The Postal Service and I hate that it's popular. It's crap.

I wish I had more time and more options. I would seriously love to have band practice on Saturday nights. The problem is I don't have anyone to have band practice with. I'm not looking to make it big or anything, but music has always been a big part of my life and since I've moved it hasn't been much bigger than me listening to a cd in the car. I own two guitars, a trumpet, a saxophone, and I can manage my way around a keyboard, but it all collects dust because I won't pick them up.

Hmm, blog took a downer. How am I gonna pick it back up. I'll just post Deep South. Makes me happy, and that's what this blog is about.

Superman Returns

Yeah, there's updates in life I could write about, but that's never really been what this blog is about. Why does it want me to spell blog differently?

Superman Returns isn't the world's best movie. The kid thing is weird, there's some unbelievable stuff (even for Superman), and Kal Penn. However, it is fun, entertaining, and enjoyable. Here's some stuff I like about it:

1) Bryan Singer is a great director. The shots, the acting, the getting Kevin Spacey. It's all good.
2) The shots. There's the real movie magic in the shots Singer got.
3) The fact that it's a new Superman movie with 70s clothes.
4) The cast is all top notch (minus Kal Penn, who might've only gotten the part for his name)

5) Brandon Routh is awesome. He embodies everything we used to know and love about Christopher Reeves. There should be no question he was cast. Tom Welling is a fine Smallville Superman, but the movie was meant to follow Reeves.

That's a dang good five reasons why everyone should watch it again and enjoy the fun of a motion picture movie.

JEW!

No, not the inappropriate slur, the band Jimmy Eat World! Easily one of my favorite bands. I own every CD. Even the first one...the very first one. Anyway, today is was announced they will have 3 more songs on Rock Band. I'm so happy. Next Saturday, if you want to find me, I'll be playing Jimmy Eat World on Rock Band. Soooo happy!

I'm kinda bored

I am kinda bored and tired of doing school work. I still need to study for a physics test. Oi! Well, as a means of putting something somewhat worthwhile in this edition, I thought you should all know what my top ten songs are on iTunes, complete with lyrics for the #1 spot. Maybe you'll get some pictures...we'll see!

#10 For the Longest Time - Sherwood

Song has a catchy chorus!

#9 Live Fast - Pensive

It's a pretty fun song, Sarah likes it. Nice guys too.

#8 We're So Starving - Panic at the Disco. I'm kinda wondering why this is #8 as I can't remember the last time I heard it. However, if you like the beginning to The Beatles "Sgt. Pepper"...you'll LOVE this.

#7 is the same band as #1, so I'll pick some other bands from my top stuff. The anticipation is growing! The "new" #7 is...If I Surrender by The Color Fred.

I'm gonna be honest, I wish he never left Taking Back Sunday, but his solo stuff is way good.

#6 will be replaced by Coheed and Cambria for the same reason as #7. I guess I don't listen to my iTunes that often. #6 Welcome Home - Coheed & Cambria. Freaking sweet and makes me sweat hardcore on Rock Band. Maybe when I get a camera or something I can edit this with a video of me playing it, until then...nothing but a song name.

#5 Robots - Flight of the Conchords. Hilarious. Affirmative. Hilarious.

#4 Choice Hops and a Bottle of Self-Esteem - Bayside. 1)Find the song and 2)listen to the solo. 3)Pick up your face from the floor.

#3 Help Me - Alkaline Trio. Ah...the trio. Been around forever, still making quality songs.

#2 Bang the Doldrums - Fall Out Boy. This song seriously reminds me of pirates during the chorus. And there's nothing wrong with pirates.

#1 Take This to Heart - Mayday Parade. Why won't they make this a single? It's easily their best song. It's got cool guitars, cool lyrics, freakin' cool harmonies at the end...what's not to love?

And, the lyrics:
Cause I'm a mess and you know that I can't help it
The drive home never seemed this long before
Killing time just a little bit faster
And I swear we'll make it

But I can't tell you what I don't know
(Be mine tonight, be mine tonight)
The simple things, they make my heart go
(Be mine tonight, be mine tonight)
But I can't tell you what I don't know
You'll have to wait
You'll have to wait

Stay Safe, Stay strong
And let me know that you'll be here when i am gone
Because I'm coming home
Coming home tonight
Let's get this right
I said I'm coming home
Coming home tonight

You said it hurts and you know that I believe you
Searching every little thing to find a way
To tell your heart just to wait a little longer
I swear we'll make it

But I can't tell you what I don't know
(Be mine tonight, be mine tonight)
The simple things, they make my heart go
(Be mine tonight, be mine tonight)
But I can't tell you what I don't know
You'll have to wait
You'll have to wait

Stay Safe, Stay strong
And let me know that you'll be here when i am gone
Because I'm coming home
Coming home tonight
Let's get this right
I said I'm coming home
Coming home tonight

One more night
And we'll go spinning around the room
And dance with our hearts on fire
Cause every song is ours tonight
And if you love me so
Im going to tell the whole world
That it's greatest thing that happened to me
I finally found a good reason to come home

Stay Safe, Stay strong
And let me know that you'll be here when i am gone
Because I'm coming home
Coming home tonight
Let's get this right
I said I'm coming home
Coming home tonight

Well, this has turned into quite the post. I think I'll go eat dinner.

Random post

Been a while since I posted anything. Wanted to give Sarah something to read when she gets on. Here are some things I've been thinking recently:

1) My wife is excellent at packing.
2) I am excellent at being behind in school (so I don't waste #3, Sarah is also excellent at understanding and helping)
3) We've been playing this "game" where we listen to all of our CDs in alphabetical order and Sarah puts the songs she likes on her computer. I'm playing too, but chances are I'll put anything on my computer. Anywho...so I occasionally get to a CD I bought in high school or just after. They are my favorite CDs. (Example: Midtown's "Save the World, Lose the Girl". I FREEKING LOVE THIS CD!!!) I think that's weird.
4) In a "well, isn't that weird" kind of moment, I found a book (that Sarah bought me) that will attempt to explain why the songs I listened to as a teenager are my favorites, but before that I get to read about people who have musicophilia (Example: A guy got struck by lightning and as a result, became obsessed with music. obsessed. Ask me more if you want to, I'm just gald I found something interesting to read for my class, because I was worried).
5) In hearing some of my favorite bands (Jimmy Eat World, Less Than Jake, Midtown) I just want to try it. To be in a band. We don't have to tour, or function really. I just want to start off playing covers, get inspired, and write some songs. I wouldn't care if I never played anywhere outside a church talent show type thing, but at the same time, I wish I could play somewhere like the Whiskey a Go-Go again because I don't think I enjoyed it that much the first time (only time, but hey, I played there!)

Wouldn't mind something this fun.

I bet taking photos is annoying...stupid press! But still...kinda want to.

6) Subject change: I have an interview with Denver Pharmacy School in a couple weeks. I've been scatterbrained the past couple days and I hope it goes away, because I'd LOVE to move to Denver. That place is awesome. I'd be close enough to old friends to potentially visit too! Or they could get off their butts and visit me!
7) It's cold tonight.
8) Since school started I've been mistaking Friday for Saturday...I get sad when I realize I'm dumb.
9) I could afford to shed a few pounds, but I don't think I'm obese....just fat.
10) I think some of Sarah's friends should follow my blog...I've only got Sarah....and Trey. Hi Trey! (I hope I spelled that right...)

Well, that's enough randomness for one night.

School's out! for a few weeks!

I finished my last final today. I should be getting 2 As and a B...maybe 3 As depending on my last final...but I'm not sure it'll put me that much higher even if I aced the thing. I'm just glad it's over for a bit.

I haven't posted a blog in a bit so I'm gonna put a few things in this one.

1) I like Christmas. I don't like it like Sarah likes it, but I like it.

2) I also like winter. I like being warm in the cold. I like how snow looks. I also like the ability to put on more layers, in the summer...I can only take off so many before it's indecent exposure.

3) Lastly, this is the best movie I've ever seen.

I'm kinda boring. Good thing it's Christmas time and stuff.

ARE YOU STUPID!!

Sarah just punched me in the stomach.

It was funny.
